解析：根据自由女神像的雕刻者Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi本人的叙述，他按照母亲的脸和妻子的身体组合雕刻成了自由女神像。因为原文中用的动词为modeled，所以选项中我们选用modeled为最佳，选项D和E排除。选项A中modeled the face of the statue like his mother’s是一个省略，后面省略的内容我们无从得知，根据且同一结构中的相同单词才可以省略，我们排除意义不明的A选项。选项B中“that”根据前文我们知道是指代“face”，弥补了选项A的不足。选项B正确。
