All teaching at Sussex is in the English language and you must therefore be sufficiently fluent in English to be able to benefit from your education.
If your first language is not English, you are normally expected to have passed an appropriate test in English, such as the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Pearson’s Test of English (Academic).
English language requirements by course
For most courses, we require:
an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each of the four components
The exceptions to this are:
Medicine (BS MS)
requiring an IELTS score of 7.5 overall and not less than 7.0 in each section
Social Work (BA)
requiring an IELTS score of 7.0 overall with not less than 6.5 in each section
Journalism (BA)
requiring an IELTS score of 7.0 overall, with not less than 6.5 in each section
Pharmacy (MPharm)
requiring an IELTS score of 7.0 overall, with not less than 6.5 in each section
(We would expect English language qualifications to have been achieved within the two years before starting your course.)
