雅思写作柱状图描写从方法上来讲与线形图基本相似。如果将柱状图的顶点都连起来的话就是一个折线图或线形图。因此前一天学习的用于描写线形图的单词、词组和句型都可以用于柱状图的描写。
柱状图一般分为竖柱状图与横柱状图，在审题时，最主要是观察横轴与纵轴分别代表什么，以及各自的单位或项目。并且观察最高点、最低点和柱形间的高低差异。也可以在图形上标出最髙值、最低值和倍数关系等，对图像所表示的数据进行归纳总结。在读懂所有数据之后，就可以对图形的写作进行构思。也就是挑选最具代表性的数据进行描写。
对柱状图的描写要求准确、客观，还要有代表性，也就是不能将图中表述的所有信息都逐一列举，不要将图表描写变成流水账。应该选取最具代表性的数据，进行趋势描写。让考官在看考生文字描写的时候能够获取和考生读图一样的信息。
同样，柱状图也一般分三个部分，首段是主旨段，介绍柱状图的主旨，需要简洁明了。第二部分就是具体的信息描述。在文章最后可以简短总结一下，但切记不要加入任何主观臆测，比如：该图的变化趋势是因为什么导致的。只要图中看不出来，就一律不能放到写作中去。

The chart below shows the cigarette smokers of different age groups in 1992 in Australia.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

审题：
该柱状图为横柱状图，是关于1992年澳大利亚吸烟者不同年龄层所占的比例。其中男性和和女性有区别。
整体来讲，男性吸烟者占28%，比女性多3个百分点。从18岁到65岁以上，不同年龄层的男性所占比例都比女性高2到6个百分点。
构思：
是除了首尾段，中间部分主要是具体数据描写。这副柱状图中体现的信息有代表性的有：
Male 28%--female 25%
男性：25-34岁与34-44岁的吸烟者都占33%，而女性的则有很大差异。
65岁及以上的老人中，女性所占比例大幅下降，而男性依然有16%。
范文：
The above bar charts show the percentages of cigarette smokers in different age groups in Australia, 1992.
As can be seen from the charts, 28 percent of male adults and 25 percent of female adults smoke.
According to the first chart，28 percent of male adults aging from 18 to 24 smoke, while only 16 percent of seniors aging from 65 and above smoke, there are more people aging from 24 to 64 who smoke. Particularly, 33 percent of men of age 25 to 44 are smokers.
The same trend can be seen in the second chart indicating the information of female smokers. There are more cigarette smokers in the age group of 25 to 24, and least smokers in the age of 64 and above. However, interestingly, only 27 percent of women in age of 34 to 44 smoke, compared to 33 percent of men in the same age.
To sum up, there is a larger proportion of men who smoke than women, which can be seen in each age group. There are more people who smoke m the age of 25 to 44, regardless of gender difference.
