The cultures of different countries are becoming similar, so there is no point for people to go travelling abroad if they could have the same experience at home. To what extent do you disagree?

1. 审题
从话题上看，这是一道文化类题目。作为专门测试国际学生英语能力的考试，雅思考试 跨文化性质决定了它必然关注不同国家的文化特点。雅思写作考试就既可能涉及某一文化的具体形式，也可能着眼于世界文化发展的大趋势。
从提问方法上来看，里然文中提问的是“你在多大程度上反对这一观点”，但本题还是属于支持反对类问题，因为文中只出现了一种观点，考生既可以认为现今人们非常有必要到国外旅行，并进行论证(这是本题为考生预设的立场);也可以发表相反的观点。就本题而言，前一种观点会容易一些。

a. 虽然各国文化变得越来越接近，但这并不代表它们不再存在差异，而这些仍然存在 的差异正是文化多样性的珍贵之处。

There was once a well know scholar announced in an interview that he would not bother to visit many places in person，as he said “newspapers, TV programs and Internet have already provided enough information for me”. Whereas in reality, millions of tourists choose otherwise: they continue to travel around the world regardless of the abundance of information available, and for good reasons.
While it is true that different countries are becoming increasingly similar, it does not mean that they are the same. In fact, there are not, and probably will never be, two identical cultures, and it is this difference, this diversity of cultures, that makes the human world dynamic and flexible. Even in the case of Ireland and England, who share similar cultural background, the disparity is nothing but clear given a century's de facto separation.
Even if the different cultures are indeed blending into each other, it would be a shame to boast of knowing a country's culture without, say，ever visiting some of the prominent cultural symbols.
For instance, I doubt anyone can claim to understand the French culture if s/he has never paid a visit to the Louvre and spent hours in front of the masterpieces it contains.
But visiting Louvre does not suffice, as the millions of visitors there are merely passer-bys of Louvre rather than students of a different culture. To truly appreciate a different culture, there is no better way than to live among its people, to do what they do and to try to feel what they feel. This certainly cannot be done at home.
Interestingly, after the above mentioned scholar reiterated announcement that he would not visit many places, he eventually flew to many places in the world，giving lectures to university students and visiting historical sites. Perhaps after all he understands that it takes more than a browse at the Internet to truly appreciate the outside world.
