形近字辨析:
英文中有些词的词形相近，意思却大相径庭，比如principle (原则)和 principal(校长)
SAT在identifying sentence error中可能会出现形近词试题，虽然形近词的考察在历届SAT真题里出现的概率很小，但也要引起我们足够的重视。
例1： Mr. Webster’s paper is highly imaginary(A), and very
creative (B), but lacking (C)in cogency(D). No error(E)
答案：A
分析：imaginary(A), and very creative, and前后的词性应该是一致的，but转折后面的cogency是贬义的，所以前面的描述应该是褒义的，所以应该将A选项中的imaginary改为imaginative.
例2： Raising(A) living costs, together with(B) escalating taxes, have proved to be a burden for everyone(D). No error(E)
答案：A
分析：Raising是及物动词”提高“的意思，这里应该改成rising表示”升高的，增长的”意思。
SAT考试中经常会碰到的形近词
例题1： The masterpiece auctioned so successfully(A) today depicts a biblical scene in which (B)the king is on his throne with counselors(C) standing respectively(D) below. No error(E)
答案：D
分析：这里的respectively是“各自的“意思，应该改为”respectfully“”恭敬地”
例题2：The presentation of the award was (A) proceeded (B) by several short speeches in praise of (C) Ms. Harper’s many contributions to (D) the community. No error (E)
答案：B
分析：proceeded是不及物动词”前进，行进”的意思，应该改为”preceded””先于，在…之前”的意思。
例题3：The acoustics of the ancient Greek theater at Epidaurus are so good that (A)an actor’s words, even when whispered(B), are auditory(C) to those sitting(D) in the last row. No error(E)
答案：C
