(Section2 Questions 20)
.....undisturbed on the damp shelves. Yet Charity Royall had
always been told that she ought to consider it a privilege
50 that her lot had been cast in North Dormer. She knew that,
compared to the place she had come from, North Dormer
represented all the blessings of the most refined
civilization. Everyone in the village had told her so ever
since she had been brought there as a child. Even old
55 Miss Hatchard had said to her, on a terrible occasion in
her life: “My child, you must never cease to remember
that it was Mr. Royall who brought you down from the
Mountain.”.....
20.The tone of the statement in lines 56-58 (“My child ... Mountain”) is best described as
(A) defensive
(B) sarcastic
(C) sorrowful
(D) bitter
(E) reproving
(A) 防御的
(B) 讽刺的
(C) 悲伤的
(D) 尖刻的
(E) 责备的
首先根据行标定位原句,line56-58“My child, you must never cease to remember
that it was Mr. Royall who brought you down from the Mountain.”
而从文章的很多地方都可以看出Charity Royall被带到的North Dormer是极大的幸运从文中的48-50行就可以看出,“Yet Charity Royall had always been told that she ought to consider it a privilege that her lot had been cast in North Dormer.“因此Miss Hatchard这里是带有一种指责教育的语气。
(SECTION5, Questions 9)
Questions 8-9 are based on the following passage.
He didn’t think this had happened before. He had
certainly woken up and not known where he was. Or what
day it was. But his name ... had he ever forgotten his
name? John? Janos? No, but something like that. It was
5 there, somewhere in the background, not only his name
but everything. . . . Life and lifestyle and extenuating
circumstances. Lying there waiting for him. Behind a thin
membrane that would have to be pierced, something that
had not woken up yet. But he was not really worried. He
10 would know soon enough.
9. The character's attitude in the passage changes from
(A) apprehension to defiance
(B) haughtiness to resignation
(C) certainty to dismay
(D) disquiet to forbearance
(E) incredulity to curiosity
文中的1-6行主要是对主人公最初情绪态度的一种描写, “He didn’t think this had happened before. He had certainly woken up and not known where he was….”
但在9-10行中“But he was not really worried. He would know soon enough.”
