一.什么是修辞
1. 很多人对于修辞的理解都是偏狭义的，换句话说，很多人理解的修辞是修辞手段(rhetorical device)。而真正的修辞分为广义修辞(文章写作风格，用态度词，段落功能，段落主旨等)和狭义修辞(夸张，比喻，拟人等)。
2. 受中文的影响，很多人所理解的修辞极为抽象。中文的修辞从字面上理解是：修饰语言的方法。我们可以感觉到也有些抽象。但是，修辞(rhetoric)的英文解释就非常的简单明了：language that is used to persuade or influence people. 所以我们可以看出来，真正的修辞是通过语言文字来“说服”读者的。从这个意义上说，修辞的理解就应该比较广。
同学们比较关心的是SAT阅读理解考试考查修辞的角度。其实，SAT阅读无论是广义还是狭义的修辞都会考到。
二.解题技巧
修辞手段的使用也有一定的模型。这里比较常见的是比较(comparison)和对比(contrast)两种。通过comparison传达的修辞手段包括：明喻，暗喻，拟人，类比，仿拟，借代等;通过contrast传达的修辞手段包括：反语，讽刺，幽默，荒唐，突降，鄙视，嘲笑等。如果从字面上去体会很难把握文章用了哪种修辞手段，那么就试着从逻辑的角度去看看文章有没有出现comparison和contrast的逻辑线索，因为由这两中逻辑为模型的修辞手段是属于高频的考点。
