  “Or so the critics said.”

  4. The tone of the statement in line 20 (“Or . . . said”)

  is best described as

  (A) impatient

  (B) apologetic

  (C) reflective

  (D) anxious

  (E) unconvinced

“Why is Venus so unlike Earth? The answer can only lie in its lesser distance from the Sun.”

  6. The tone of the statement in lines 43-44 (“The answer... Sun”) is best described as

  (A) regretful

  (B) guarded

  (C) skeptical

  (D) decisive

  (E) amused

The answer is..... 这个句子中的only说明了作者对于自己的观点是很自信的,所以语气应该是很肯定的,根据韦氏词典decisive的意思是 able to make choices quickly and confidently或者very clear and obvious,所以,答案应该是decisive。

Perceptions that aren’t backed up by creditable prose are generally worthless, because writing isn’t just a conduit for thinking. Writing is thinking.

  12. Which best describes the author’s tone in lines 78-81(“Perceptions…is thinking”)?

  (A) Triumphant

  (B) Resolute

  (C) Snide

  (D) Conciliatory

  (E) Ambivalent

其实这句话的结构很清楚,可以简化为“perceptions are worthless, because writing isn’t just xx. Writing is xx.”

I thought about my mother because I always imagined her beneath a sky bright and thick with stars, planets, comets, and moons. Earl had a soft, distant expression on his face and I was certain his thoughts moved in the same direction as mine, and for that moment our loss combined with our blood, and he was my friend.

12.The mood in lines 70-75 (“I thought … friend “) is best characterized as one of

  (A) lightheartedness

  (B) apprehension

  (C) isolation

  (D) despair

  (E) wistfulness
