Since I would need the score on new TOEFL test for my application to a private school that I would like to attend, I took the test one week ago. Generally, this test was not so hard for me because I have been in America for a while. However, it may not be the case for other people. Therefore, I would like to give some tips about how to ace the TOEFL iBT. Hope they help.
reading
In the first section, reading, I think there is only one thing that you need to pay attention on. It is that you should never read the whole passage before you do the problems. Instead of that, you should always read the questions that you are about to complete first, and then you can read some of the paragraphs of the passage in order to find out what the answers could be. From my personal point of view, this way is the best way to do well on the reading section.
listening
The next section is listening. Many people suggested me that I needed to take notes while I am listening to the conversations or lectures. However, it is NOT the best way. Since the listening (especially of lectures) is chosen from the passages similar to what we read in the reading section, lots of information are following the previous information that you think it is important. As a result, you can miss many things if you spend too much time on notes-taking. It is very unbeneficial to you. Thus, it is a better way to memorize the information instead of writing it down.
Speaking
Speaking is probably the most difficult part of the test to most students. I do not think there is really a magic method that you can use to improve your speaking very soon. However, the fact does not mean that you cannot practice. Recently, I find many people posted a lot of speaking practices online. If you want to do well on speaking, you must practice until you feel good with your speaking. Besides, there is also a small tip for doing speaking section. It is that you MUST speak out loudly and clearly. Thus, people who listen to your responses will consider you as a person who really has the confidence to speak English, and thus you can probably get a higher grade than if you speak silently.
Writing
For writing, you should always try your best. There is no other way.
