见异思迁系列之巧用托福阅读材料(二)

  在教学的这几年的时间里,我和学生说的最多的一句话就是:不要把托福的各个单项分开来学,一定要在学每个单项的时候都贯穿起来,举一反三,学会迁移。比如在做托福阅读的时候看到里边的好词好句可以积累下来供口语和写作用,在学综合口语的task4和6以及综合写作的时候要注意积累其中的事例以便他们能用于写作的事例列举中,然后我们还会发现阅读中积累的素材背景可以用于听力的文本理解中,种种迹象表明,托福的各个单项不是单一的存在的,我们一定要学会“嫁接”,学会见异思迁,巧用各类托福阅读材料

  上两次我以阅读的tpo10的第一篇Chinese Pottery中的第五段和tpo3综合口语里的task6为例进行了说明,这次我再以TPO阅读13和14中的几个句子和素材为例进行一下延伸。

  Tpo13 Types of Social Groups

  Life places us in a complex web of relationships with other people. Our humanness arises out of these relationships in the course of social interaction. Moreover, our humanness must be sustained through social interaction—and fairly constantly so. When an association continues long enough for two people to become linked together by a relatively stable set of expectations, it is called a relationship.

  People are bound within relationships by two types of bonds: expressive ties and instrumental ties. Expressive ties are social links formed when we emotionally invest ourselves in and commit ourselves to other people. Through association with people who are meaningful to us, we achieve a sense of security, love, acceptance, companionship, and personal worth. Instrumental ties are social links formed when we cooperate with other people to achieve some goal. Occasionally, this may mean working with instead of against competitors. More often, we simply cooperate with others to reach some end without endowing the relationship with any larger significance.

  这篇文章中这两个标红的句子可以为我们的写作句型方面提供很好的借鉴,第一个被标红的句子用了place这个单词,在我之前的作文中从未出现过生活将我们置身于……中这个用法,我们常用的句子就是we are in a complex society.而原文用了life做主语,动词place代替了我们常用的be动词are。用complex web of relationship代替了society,顿时这个句子就写活了。同样第二个标红色的句子给我们提供了很好的写作方式和素材,我们可以把他用于人际关系和team work的话题中,去论证人与人之间的关系能够得到什么东西。同样这个句子避免了我们常用的句子+through方式,原文将through状语放在句首,教会我们一种写作方式:状语前置。

  Tpo14 Children and Advertising

  Young children are trusting of commercial advertisements in the media, and advertisers have sometimes been accused of taking advantage of this trusting outlook. The Independent Television Commission, regulator of television advertising in the United Kingdom, has criticized advertisers for "misleadingness"—creating a wrong impression either intentionally or unintentionally—in an effort to control advertisers' use of techniques that make it difficult for children to judge the true size, action, performance, or construction of a toy.

  Fantasy is one of the more common techniques in advertising that could possibly mislead a young audience. Child-oriented advertisements are more likely to include magic and fantasy than advertisements aimed at adults. In a content analysis of Canadian television, the author Stephen Kline observed that nearly all commercials for character toys featured fantasy play. ……

  The use of celebrities such as singers and movie stars is common in advertising. The intention is for the positively perceived attributes of the celebrity to be transferred to the advertised product and for the two to become automatically linked in the audience's mind. In children's advertising, the "celebrities" are often animated figures from popular cartoons. In the recent past, the role of celebrities in advertising to children has often been conflated with the concept of host selling. ……

  我们可以将本篇文章中标红的字体运用于写作中,句中运用了同位语插入regulator of television advertising in the United Kingdom,以及—creating a wrong impression either intentionally or unintentionally—运用点,线勾出句子的层次感,还有我们平时用的比较多的定语从句以及it作形式宾语的多种写作手法,将这个句子的高大上的形象瞬间呈现在我们面前~试想如果我们在考场上合理的运用上这么一个句子,岂不让所有其他的小伙伴望尘莫及嘛~

  这篇文章一出炉,我们顿时觉得这不是活生生的一篇独立写作吗,被标蓝的字体就可以很好地运用于我上次提到的那篇有关于广告的作文题目中作为分论点Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Most advertisements make products seem much better than they really are.所以面对这么一篇作文,我们在做阅读的时候就已经积累到了很好的作文素材,写起来自然是不会很费力气的。
