在托福写作中，有很多时候也会出现自选论述型的题目，即给考生一个范围，让考生从中选择出一个方面进行论述。那么这样的话题该怎样准备呢?在论述的过程中，我们又应该从哪些方面入手呢?本次前程百利小编就以一道真题来和大家分析一下。
A gift (such as a camera, a soccer ball, or an animal) can contribute to a child’s development. What gift would you give to help a child develop? Why? Use reasons and specific examples to support your choice.
一.构思
这个题目让考生陈述选择的是帮助孩子成长的礼物的理由，并没有限定考生选择哪一个礼物，即可以帮助孩子成长的礼物都可以，只要考生可以论述出选择的理由即可。所以考生在论述的时候，应该把重点放在可以帮助孩子们成长上来。前程百利小编认为，在论述的时候，考生可以选择playing with pets，在列提纲的时候可以从以下几个方面陈述理由。
1.学习知识acquire knowledge
既然关系到孩子们的发展，那么这份礼物首先就应该可以帮助它们学习知识。Textbook虽然可以帮助孩子们学习知识，但是比较vivid。而playing with pets则可以帮助child学习更多关于动物和自然的知识，stimulate their interest in biology.
2.培养责任感：develop responsibility
在孩子们的成长过程中，应该培养责任感，养一个宠物恰恰可以帮助大家做到这一点。很多孩子在平时被父母over-protected，不知道什么是责任，养宠物可以帮助他们fulfill their duty。
3.解除寂寞：relieve loneliness
现在社会生活的节奏越来越快，很多家长都没有时间陪孩子，所以养宠物可以帮助他们减轻这种孤独感.
二.组织文章结构
在做完outline之后，接下来就是组织文章结构了。前程百利小编建议，考生在组织文章结构的时候，把整个文章分成三部分，分别是introduction，body以及conclusion。
首先，在introduction部分，建议考生先陈述background以及自己的观点statement。即在这个题目中考生可以这样组织答案。It is believed that in the formative years of children, a gift is very beneficial. (背景)However, preferences vary from person to person .From my view, I would pick a pet. (statement)And a few reasons would be presented as follows.
在论述body部分的时候，考生可以根据刚刚提到的outline，从三个方面即acquire knowledge;develop responsibility;relieve loneliness进行论述。在论述的时候，考生应该注意句式的多样性。比如考生在论述relieve loneliness的时候可以这样展开论述。Loneliness can be relieved by keeping pet. It is not uncommon that in China, due to its one-child policy.(It is引起的从句) A child always feels lonely at home, especially during vacations, as he does not have any siblings. (as引起的原因状语从句)Not surprisingly, he would resort to Internet, playing on-line games and leading a sedentary life all day to kill the time. With a pet, the situation differs dramatically. (with短语)He can play with the pet, take a walk, and is supposed to feed the pet. Time spent on these activities is much more worthwhile and meaningful than idling.(比较级)
最后综合以上的观点，陈述conclusion 即可。
托福写作中的自选论述型文章并没有考生想象中的那么困难，所以建议考生利用历年真题不断联系，争取在考试中取得高分。
