阅读首段: In the 1950s Torreya taxifoha, a type of evergreen tree once very common in the state of Florida, started to die out. No one is sure exactly what caused the decline, but chances are good that if nothing is done, Torreya will soon become extinct. Experts are considering three ways to address the decline of Torreya.首段一般是提出要解决的问题是什么?

第一个解决方法:The first option is to reestablish Torreya in the same location in which it thrived for thousands of years. Torreya used to be found in abundance in the northern part of Florida, which has a specific microclimate.

第二个解决方法:The second option is to move Torreya to an entirely different location, far from its Florida microclimate. Torreya seeds and saplings have been successfully planted and grown in forests further north, where the temperature is significantly cooler.
第三个解决方法:The third option is to preserve Torreya in research centers. Seeds and saplings can be moved from the wild and preserved in a closely monitored environment where it will be easier for scientists both to protect the species and conduct research on Torreya. This research can then be used to ensure the continued survival of the species.

反对解决方法1:About the first solution-reestablishing Torreya in the same location-that’s unlikely to be successful, because of what’s happening to the coolest dampest areas within torreya’s micro-climate. These areas are being strongly affected by changes in the climate of the larger region.

反对解决方法2:……When they did this, the black locust tree spread so quickly that it killed off many plants and trees in the new environment, and some of these plants and trees were themselves already in danger of becoming extinct . So assisted migration can have unpredicted outcomes for the new environment.
反对解决方法3:Third, research centers are probably not a solution either. That’s because the population of Torreya trees that can be kept in the centers will probably not be able to resist diseases. For a population of trees to survive a disease, it needs to be relatively large and it needs to be genetically diverse.
第二部分:托福综合写作文章
In the reading passage, the author claims that there are three solutions to stop the decline of Torreya taxifolia. However, the lecturer entirely challenged the statements made by the writer. The speaker contends that none of them will be useful.
First, the writer states that reestablishing Torreya in the same location can save it. The lecturer, however, holds a different view that the Torreya’s microclimate which is the coolest and dampest is strongly affected by the larger region whose temperature had increased because of the global warming. Or the wetlands there have been drained. Both will cause the region to become drier and drier, which never suits Torreya's survival.
Secondly, the author believes that moving Torreya to a different place is a good way. On the contrary, the professor casts doubt on that by using the example of block locust tree. After being moved to a new environment , it spread too quickly and killed many plants and trees which were actually in danger of becoming extinct. Thus moving it to another place will produce unpredicted results for the new environment.
Thirdly, the speaker refutes the viewpoint showed in the passage that research center is feasible by saying that Torreya in the research center cannot resist disease. In order to resist disease, the population of trees Has to be large and genetically diverse. But the research center cannot satisfy these conditions, so it will not help Torreya survive in the long run. Thus research center will not work cither
