convalescence拆开看看吧：con全部+vale+escence开始，表示的是身体全部开始强壮起来，就是“恢复健康”啊。Escence为么表示“开始”来?还有一个词，跟它很相像，是quiescence，意思是“静止的，静息的”。这也不难拆分，前面quie就是来自于quiet，安静;后面的escence就是“开始”咯，“开始安静了”，这叫做“静止的”。当然，关于“vale”的还有这个equivalent 意思是 adj.相等的。可以拆成这个样子equi+vale+ent。 equi-作为一个词根，表示的意思是平等的，相等的;vale是价值;ence是名词后缀，所以说，意思再合起来就是“价值是相等的”，说白了，就是“相等的”，但是比equal要高级的多。看到了形容词，我们必须要联想到名词形式，就是equivalence n.同等量值，等价。看到它的名词形式，我们应该就能明白它跟equal的区别之处了。

关于vail以及它的种种，我们的例子今天就举到这，上次说了要看看它的另外一个表示“价值”的变体—value
有关Value的一系列的词，都是必须要掌握的要点。
第一是value，n.价值，泡泡级别词汇;衍生词valuable 是 adj.有价值的。在这里是-able/-ible作为形容词后缀的第二种用法——-able/-ible加在名词的后面，翻译成“有…的”。你看reasonable，是reason+able，是“有道理的”意思;responsible是“有责任的”。回来，再来衍生，是invaluable 意思是么呢?in-作为前缀，表示否定，那invaluable就是“没价值的”吧?错!大错特错!在这儿不能够翻译成“没价值的”， 恰恰相反，它的含义应该翻译成“无法估价的”，就是“无价的”，这样意思就不一样了，反而是“特别特别贵的”意思。在GRE，SAT级别还有一个词，表示“特别特别贵的”意思，给大家拓展一下。看到prohibit，意思是动词，禁止;继续，结尾加上-ive，叫做“禁止的”，HOWEVER，GRE能考你真么简单的意思么?显然不是啊，这可是“God Read English”啊!prohibitive的第二个意思是adj.及其贵重的。光是SAT填空就出现了很多次：

再回到value。看这个evaluate ，大家一起拆分一下：e=ex表示出来+valu价值+ate动词后缀，合起来的意思就是“让价值体现出来”，这就是v.估价，评价。再看这个呢：devaluate ，de下降+valu价值+ate动词后缀，这是价值在下降啊!顾名思义——v.减价，贬值。最后undervalue 这哥们是高中词汇啊，v.低估，轻视，但是它的另一个同义词要狠狠地记住，underestimate v.低估的意思，因为estimate 做名词+动词，估计，估量。
