Du Fu is a prominent Chinese poet of Tang Dynasty, whose poems serve to be reliable and valuable historic reference. He is one of the most productive poets in China’s history. Though little-known when he was alive, he left more than 1,500 pieces of poems, most of which are highly appreciated now. The most distinguishing feature of his poems would be the realistic exposure of the social problems at that time. With plain yet accurate expressions, Du revealed to us the great gap between rich and poor, the unbearable taxes, and the suffering imposed by wars. In all, he’s not only a great poet regarding his writings, but also a great man considering his constant concern over the nation.

Among all scholars throughout the history, Wang was one of the few who won the favor of the emperor and earned a high official position in the imperial government. It was this desirable position that made his ambition and good will for the people come true. He promoted important socioeconomic reforms and, to some extent, successfully added to the nation’s power, in terms of both economy and military. Besides being a successful poet, Wang Anshi undoubtedly is also a great economist and statesman
