连词包含名词性从句的连词和定语从句，状语从句的连接词，比如像定语从句who，whose或者是which，that，这种在定语从句中也被称作是关系词，who，that被称作是关系代词，when,where,还有why就被称作是关系副词，这一类的需要注意区分一下。关于名词性从句，比如宾语从句或者主语从句，同位语从句的连接词that在从句中当中是不充当任何成分的。关于标点比如逗号，分号或者句号。因为标点的符号涉及到连接词的个数，所以在做题的时候需要注意。如果标点和连词在一起考的话，那么谓语动词的个数减去一应该等于连词的个数。本文就给大家介绍下GMAT语法连词标点真题解析第一部分。
例1： The Iroquois were primarily planters, but supplementing their cultivation of maize, squash, and beans with fishing and hunting.
A but supplementing
B and had supplemented
C and even though they supplemented
D although they supplemented
E but with supplementing
分析：The Iroquois是主语，were 是谓语，planters是宾语，连接词是but ，谓语动词的个数减去一应该等于连词的个数，那么很明显前面有一个谓语动词were，那么but后面应该还有一个谓语动词才对。A选项只有一个doing结构，没有谓语动词，排除。B选项and是连接词，连接是一个谓语动词，但是had supplemented 之后没有任何时间状语，所以推断不出来是过去完成时，排除B在GMAT语法中如果想要强调过去完成时，除了需要时间状语还要表明过去的过去这个意思，也就是说需要前面初出现一个过去的动作，表明动作的先后顺序才可以使用完成时。C选项有两个连接词and 和even though，既然这样岂不是需要有三个谓语动词，但是C选项仍然是只有两个谓语动词，排除C。剩下改的D和E选项，其中E选项明显是错误的，因为 but 是连词，后面是介宾，而且还是doing结构，所以只剩下D选项正确了。
正确句子：
The Iroquois were primarily planters, although they supplemented their cultivation of maize, squash, and beans with fishing and hunting.
验证：
The Iroquois是主语，were 是谓语，planters是宾语，although 是连词，连词连接的从句当中的句子主语是they，supplemented是谓语，their cultivation 是宾语，of 是介词短语做定语修饰cultivation。介词短语当中跟着 maize, squash, and beans三个名词的平行并列，with是伴随修饰就近的名词，所以验证结果正确。
例2：
Mauritius was a British colony for almost 200 years, excepting for the domains of administration and teaching, the English language was never really spoken on the island.
A excepting for
B except in
C but except in
D but excepting for
E with the exception of
分析：Mauritius是主语，was是谓语， a British colony是宾语，for almost 200 years介词短语，excepting for这个介词短语的出现，在这里要注意一下except的用法，中学学习的except是介词，但是这里用的是doing结构，我们知道只有动词才有doing结构，那么A选项明显把except当做动词使用了，except如果做动词是一个及物动词，后面直接跟着宾语，不能跟着介词，所以A选项排除。B选项except in 表明except 是介词，在这里我们要提点一下，看看句子当中是是否缺乏连词，分析句子可以发现前面主句当中的谓语是was ，后面的句子the English language是主语，was spoken是谓语动词，所以这两个句子之间还缺乏一个连词，所以B选项虽然介词用对了但是没有连词，排除B。C选项正好有连词but,而且连词个数是谓语动词的个数减去一，所以保留C选项。D选项虽然有连词了，但是能用doing的一定是动词，except当做动词使用时是及物动词，所以排除D。E选项没有连词，排除E。

验证：
Mauritius是主语，was是谓语， a British colony是宾语，for almost 200 years介词短语做的时间状语， but 是连词，except in介词短语，but连接的从句是the English language was never really spoken on the island.这个句子。从句句子主语是the English language，谓语是was never really spoken。
