among between为近义词，皆可表示“在……之间”，但用法大不相同。今天我们就说一下GMAT语法考试中between和among的区别。
一、among一般用于三者或三者以上的“在……中间”，其宾语通常是一个表示笼统数量或具有复数意义的名词或代词。
His house is hidden among the trees.
他的房子隐藏在树林之中。
She sat among the children.
她坐在孩子们中间。
二、between一般指两者之间，其宾语往往是一个具体数目的人(物)，或者是由and连接的两个具体的人(物)。
There was a fight between the two boys.
这两个男孩间发生了一场格斗。
I am sitting between my parents.
我正坐在我父母中间。

句式：
there must be a balance among explainin….., revealing ….., and promoting….
思路：
选项中出现between和among，分两类来看。
先看between也就是A,C,E项，between A and B,只能两项对比，读选项发现explaining xxx， revealing xxx， promoting xxx，三项对比，所以不能用between
再看B,D，among后的几个方面同样要保持结构一致，explaining(动名词) the revelation of(名词) to promote(不定式)结构不一致，所以排除D，选B。
选项：
A. between…and用在这里不对，between与第一个and连接的分别是explanation of the value 和workings of archaeology，很容易将这两部分视为平行结构，翻译为：“在考古学中，对价值的解释和考古工作必须保持平衡，然后考古学揭示了古今文化的奥秘”。。。翻译不通，之后的revealing没有逻辑主语，and to promote 在之前也应该有并列成分，但是找不到。所以A错
B. 正确
C. between…and误用，按照选项的结构来说，explaining 与revealing是并列成分，那么revealing前面缺少and;与第二个and之后成分并列的应该是前面整个句子，所以之后也应该是一个完整的句子，后面用and when promoting...不对。所以C错
D. among (A , B and C)之后可以跟三个或三个以上的并列成分，并具有相似结构，explaining，the revelation of，and to promote 结构不同，所以D错
E. between…and误用。

1) between …and 两者之间并列;
2) among…and三者及以上。
